What does StorySplice generate?

StorySplice combines an editable script, stock footage, synthetic narration, optional background music and styled captions into a downloadable MP4.

Can I use my own script, video and music?

Yes. You can paste your own script, upload local video files up to 150 MB each and upload a supported background-music file up to 30 MB. You are responsible for having the rights required to use uploaded material.

Which video formats are supported?

You can create portrait 9:16 or landscape 16:9 videos, with target lengths from approximately 15 to 60 seconds. Choose portrait for phone-first feeds and landscape for conventional widescreen players.

Can I preview a video before downloading it?

Yes. Completed videos can be played in the browser and downloaded as MP4 files from the project workspace or Recent videos.

How long are videos stored?

Generated task media, uploaded local videos and uploaded background music are scheduled for automatic deletion after seven days. Download anything you want to keep.

Can I use generated videos commercially?

The Terms permit lawful personal or commercial use to the extent allowed by law, but you must review the result and secure all necessary rights, licenses and permissions.

How to troubleshoot an AI video render systematically

A failed video job can originate in the input, an external provider, a media file, narration, captions, encoding, storage or browser delivery. Diagnose the stage before changing unrelated settings.

Capture the failure before retrying repeatedly

Record the job ID, account, approximate start time, selected source, format, duration and visible error. Note whether the progress changed and whether another small job works. Repeated retries can consume provider quotas, create duplicate jobs and erase useful timing clues.

Do not send passwords, Google credentials or API keys in a support request. The job ID and timestamp are usually more useful because they allow server and worker events to be correlated without exposing secrets.

Reduce the job to the smallest valid input

Create a diagnostic version with a short plain-text script, one supported aspect ratio, automatic narration, no uploaded music and a reliable stock source. If that succeeds, add one original setting at a time. This isolates the variable that triggers the failure.

  • Confirm the script is within the displayed limit and contains usable text.
  • Use portrait 9:16 or landscape 16:9 rather than a retired format.
  • Check uploaded filenames, extensions and actual media content.
  • Keep individual local videos within the stated upload limit.
  • Remove unusual control characters copied from formatted documents.

A file extension alone does not prove the internal codec is supported. When an uploaded file is suspicious, inspect it with a media-information tool or re-export it as a conventional H.264/AAC MP4.

Separate external-provider failures from local rendering failures

AI scripts, stock searches, synthetic voices and generated media may depend on different providers. One provider outage should not automatically be diagnosed as a server-wide failure. Check whether the health indicator confirms the StorySplice control service is reachable, then compare a job that avoids the suspected provider.

Likely conclusion

The core queue and encoder are functioning; investigate the generated-media provider, paid-task confirmation, quota or callback/polling state.

Provider errors can be temporary, but unlimited retries are not a monitoring strategy. Use bounded retries with backoff and preserve the final error response in server logs without recording secret credentials.

Inspect downloaded and uploaded media before composition

A remote URL may return an HTML error page instead of a video. A clip can also be truncated, have no audio/video stream, use an unsupported codec or report misleading duration metadata. Validate status code, content type, file size and stream information before asking the encoder to combine it.

For visual failures, compare the source dimensions with the target orientation. A valid landscape clip can still produce a poor portrait crop. That is a creative incompatibility, not necessarily a renderer defect.

Check worker resources when composition reaches FFmpeg

Encoding consumes CPU, memory, temporary disk and file descriptors. A job may fail when several heavy tasks overlap even though each one works individually. Review worker logs, queue concurrency, free disk space and whether the operating system terminated a process.

Do not increase concurrency simply because the queue is slow. On a four-vCPU server, controlled sequential or low-concurrency rendering is often safer than allowing every user job to encode simultaneously. Set timeouts that distinguish a genuinely stalled process from a long but active render.

  1. Verify the exact FFmpeg command or normalized job settings.
  2. Confirm every referenced temporary file still exists.
  3. Check available disk space and permissions.
  4. Inspect the process exit code and final stderr lines.
  5. Retry only after identifying a transient cause or changing one variable.

When the job is complete, test file delivery separately

A finished MP4 can exist while browser playback fails. Request the file directly and verify a 200 response, the video/mp4 content type and byte-range support. Download it and play locally. If the local file works, investigate authentication, expired access, caching, reverse-proxy headers or browser compatibility.

StorySplice project media is temporary. A link can stop working after the seven-day retention window even though the original job completed successfully. That is expected lifecycle behavior, not an encoding failure.

Send a support report that can be investigated

Include the job ID, approximate time, stage, selected source, aspect ratio, whether a minimal job succeeded, and the exact visible error. Add a screenshot when it shows the state clearly. Do not attach confidential scripts or private media unless support specifically requests them through an appropriate channel.
